The brainchild of guitarist Ben Bruce , the band was originally formed in Dubai in under the name Amongst Us, which soon changed to End of Reason before they eventually settled on Asking Alexandria in They cemented the name change with their self-released EP Tomorrow. Shortly afterward, Bruce left Dubai and returned to England, resulting in the dissolution of the band. In , he formed a new group around the name Asking Alexandria.
In , they signed with Sumerian Records and released their first album with the new lineup, Stand Up and Scream , in the fall of that year. Reckless peaked at number nine on the Billboard charts and the band continued with relentless touring into the next year. At the end of , Worsnop tore a vocal cord, an injury that would prove consequential years later.
The group returned in the summer of with a more mature hard rock sound, smoothing off some of the metalcore and electronicore influences, resulting in their more focused third album, From Death to Destiny. That October, Stoff split with the band. Worsnop -- in the midst of his own solo endeavors -- rejoined Asking Alexandria just in time for the group's ten-year anniversary.

On 23 October , the band announced that their third album would be more "radio-friendly" with guitarist Ben Bruce stating that " Bruce expected the album to contain songs, six of which he says would be "radio-friendly" and the rest of which would be "our usual balls-to-the-wall kind of stuff.
On 2 December the band were in an accident as they were driving to their show in Chicago from Cleveland. Nobody was seriously hurt but the band's tour bus was badly damaged.
On 9 December in New York during the Monster Energy Outbreak tour, Danny Worsnop announced that he had torn his vocal cord and wouldn't be able to perform, and that his friends from Attila and I See Stars would be performing vocals for the band until he was able to perform again. On 7 January Danny went in for a check-up on his torn vocal chord with vocal specialist Dr.

Revolver Magazine included the album on their list of the Most Anticipated Albums of On 22 July a music video for the 'rock mix' of The Death of Me was released. They later toured with nu metal band Korn in America in September and October as a support act, along with Love and Death. On 6 November, the band released a new music video for the fourth single of the third album 'Killing You'. It was announced that the band would make their second appearance on a Punk Goes The song was released as a promotional single for the album and was accompanied by a lyric video.
Asking Alexandria's music has been described by critics as metalcore, electronicore, and heavy metal. Worsnop has stated on Twitter that Aerosmith were his biggest inspiration: "From time to time, I forget just how perfect Aerosmith are. Then I play their songs and my soul comes alive. My all time biggest inspiration". When we were writing our first album, I suppose our biggest influences were probably more American bands than British.
